MEET THE GUY THAT MAKES MORE PER HOLE THAN TIGER WOODS
By Jay Busbee, http://sports.yahoo.com
Tiger Woods has played 1,044 holes of golf this season and has earned $9.7 million, or approximately $9,300 per hole. Jason Hargett laughs at that figure. Laughs, I say!
On Tuesday, Hargett participated in one of those “hole-in-one for big bucks” contests as part of the Mark Eaton Celebrity Classic in Utah. Hargett hadn’t planned on playing because of a sore wrist. But since even a bad day golfing is better than a good day doing anything else, he manned up, borrowed his brother’s clubs, and ventured onto the course at the Red Ledges Golf Club. And then this happened:
That hole was a 150-yarder, and Hargett used a nine-iron for a $1 million stroke. Only question now is, how much of a cut does his brother get? Those were his clubs, after all. Bet that won’t make for some awkward Thanksgiving dinners at all.

GOLF CHANNEL TO PLACE MICS ON PLAYERS FOR REMAINING LPGA EVENTS
By Jon Show, Staff Writer, SportsBusiness Journal
Golf Channel will mic an LPGA player for each of its remaining seven events, beginning with Brittany Lincicome at the P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship. Golfers will wear the microphone during play and take part in interviews before their rounds and at the turn. LPGA and Golf Channel, which begin a new 10-year TV deal in January, first mic’d a player and conducted at-the-turn interviews during the McDonald’s LPGA Championship in June. Golf Channel has experimented with at-the-turn interviews on the Nationwide Tour, and Champions Tour players regularly take part in live on-course interviews.
GOING GREEN
The Deutsche Bank Championship announced that it’s event was carbon neutral for the second year in a row, continuing its status as the first and only carbon neutral tournament on the PGA Tour. The ‘09 event for the first time featured a solar power installation and a new sustainability tent (Deutsche Bank Championship).
TWO UPCOMING LPGA TOURNAMENTS TO SEE $200,000 REDUCTIONS IN PURSES
The LPGA has told players the purse for both the September 24-27 CVS/pharmacy LPGA Challenge and the October 1-4 Navistar LPGA Classic “will be reduced $200,000 this year,” trimming the total prize money for the tournaments to $1.1M and $1.3M, respectively. An LPGA exec said that the players were in “unanimous agreement with the move.” The cut follows a reduction of the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic purse from $1.4M this year to $1M in ’10 (GOLFDIGEST.com, 9/14).

Atlantic Golf Survey Shows ‘Course Conditions,’ ‘Price’ and ‘Pace’ Are Most Important Factors When Deciding Where to Play
A golf course’s conditions, followed closely by “price” and “pace of play,” are the most important factors players consider when deciding on a course to play, according to a recent survey of Mid-Atlantic golfers conducted by Atlantic Golf.
In the online survey that resulted in responses from 964 golfers, “location/distance to course” was the fourth most important consideration, while the bottom three were “driving range/practice area,” “staff” and amenities such as a “pro shop or café/grill.”
